A Letter from the President

Dear Colleagues:

Drop everything!  You are invited to attend the 41st annual meeting of the Kentucky Political Science Association on March 1-2, 2002 at Cumberland College.   Enclosed are a pre-registration form, a preliminary program, and other information.

This year’s program features three general roundtables.  For obvious reasons, we decided to devote some attention to terrorism and its challenges.  A roundtable entitled "Terrorism and Political Change" will be held on Friday afternoon.  In addition, also on Friday afternoon, a second roundtable will examine the task of "Creating a Canadian Studies Online Program."

Finally, on Saturday morning, a third roundtable arranged by Dr. Paul Blanchard and the Eastern Kentucky University Center for Kentucky History and Politics will discuss "Two Party Competition in Kentucky: The Critical Nature of the 2002 Elections."

On Friday evening, following dinner, our keynote speaker will be Professor Wilfred M. McClay, SunTrust Bank Chair of Excellence in Humanities at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.   Professor McClay has also taught at Georgetown University, Tulane University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Dallas.  He is a frequent contributor to such journals as The Public Interest, First Things, American Scholar, Commentary, Reviews in American History, and Wilson Quarterly.

Registration details are included on an accompanying form.  The entire meeting will be conducted at the Cumberland Inn.  There are two pre-meeting dates to keep in mind.  The Cumberland Inn in Williamsburg will be holding a block of rooms for those who wish to stay overnight on March 1.  Rates are: Standard Rooms $69.00; Small Suite $84.00; Medium Suite $115.00; Large Suite $125.00. You can call to make reservations at 1-800-315-0286.  Please note that if you intend to stay overnight in Williamsburg, the Inn needs to receive your hotel room reservations by February 19.   In addition, in order to plan for the Friday dinner buffet, the food service at the Inn needs to know by February 22 how many conference attendees plan to dine.   Therefore, I need to receive your pre-registration form (enclosed) indicating your intention to dine by that date.

Sincerely,

Bruce Hicks, President
